Helping Hands

I hope that you have had a wonderful Christmas and you are preparing for the best year you have ever had in 2016. I don't always make resolutions when the new year comes around, but I'm making a few this year, some of which I am beginning to work on now. That gives me almost a week's head start on my goals! :)

One of my plans is to declutter this house. In the process of sorting through some of my old Avon materials I came across my Beauty Advisor training materials from 2002. Since I had on my TeuxDeux list to write a blog post about nails and how to do a proper manicure, finding a good outline for a manicure in my BA materials has prompted me to write that today. So, from Avon and with my own tweaks and additions, here is:

How to Give Yourself a Weekly Manicure

1. Shape nails, filing in one direction to prevent damage. A good rule on length is to not allow your nail tip to grow longer than a third of the length of the part of your nail on your finger bed. And as far as shape goes, the tip should echo the base, which is a squared oval for most people. Do not file down the sides of the nail as this will weaken it. Leave old nail polish on while filing to help protect the nail. Tip: Have you tried crystal nail files? I love them! You will have to invest a little more for a good one, but they last for years as long as you are careful not to drop them on a tile or concrete floor.

2. Soak a cotton ball with nail polish remover and press and hold onto nail for a few seconds then wipe. Allowing the remover to soak into the polish makes it easier to remove in one wipe. Tip: I recommend non-acetone remover. It should only take you a few seconds longer to remove the polish than remover with acetone and it is easier on your nails.

3. Soak hands in warm water for 3-5 minutes. Adding a few drops of Avon Naturals Shower Gel to the water will give you a truly gentle and relaxing hand soak.

4. Massage hand cream into cuticle area and gently push the cuticle back with an orange stick. Do not cut cuticles, because this can leave them weak and possibly allow bacteria to get into the open skin.

5. Wash hands gently with warm water and towel-dry. Allow nails several minutes to completely dry. If you plan to wear nail enamel continue with step 6. If you prefer the natural look of bare nails, skip to step 10.

6. Apply a Base Coat to nails to prevent staining the nail with nail enamel. This is particularly important if you use a darker more intense nail enamel. Allow the base coat to dry for 5 minutes before you...

7. Apply Nail Enamel. Brush one stripe down the center of the nail from base to tip, then brush one stroke on either side, avoiding the nail edges. This application makes fingers look slender and avoids the need to use remover to take excess polish off the skin around your nails. For best results apply two coats of enamel. Tip: If you do need to remove nail enamel from skin, wrap a tiny piece of cotton around the tip of a toothpick and dip into a small amount of remover poured into the lid of the bottle and use to go around your nail.

8. Apply a Top Coat for longer-lasting wear.

9. Let nails dry thoroughly--at least 20 minutes.

10. Apply Cuticle Gel Remover and a protective hand cream. Avon has several ones to choose from, including these customer favorites: Moisture Therapy Intensive Healing and Repair or Silicone Glove Protective Hand Cream.

11. To keep your manicure and your hands looking great, use protective gloves when washing dishes or doing other heavy cleaning. Exfoliate dead skin once a week and slather on hand cream several times a day. Tip: Avon FootWorks scrub and Clearskin scrub are great for exfoliating hands too!

This is the newsletter I send to my downline to report on how we are doing each campaign. With a new year comes a new time to consider starting your own business. Why not see if Avon is the perfect fit for you?

Holiday Greetings!

Because Avon has done a speed up on the campaigns at the end of the year, we have closed out C26 before I've gotten the C25 newsletter done. Therefore, I'm going to speed up my own reporting and combine the last two campaigns of the year into this one newsletter.

There were 2 Cloud Climbers with direct delivery orders at their eStores in C26: Barbie Breen and Rene Parker.

Happy Birthday to Gladys Faulk, Susanne Walters, Tawana Frails, and Lois Johnson - all celebrating in December. Lois was a New Year's Eve baby many years ago.

We only have one Cloud Climber with an Avon Anniversary in December and that is Suheidy Colon, who is celebrating her 3rd anniversary as an Avon Lady. Congratulations, Suheidy! I hope to have you continue on our team for many more years. Perhaps you will one day be celebrating your 30th anniversary, as I will be in 2017.

We don't have any new team members to report, but I'm hoping that with the new year there will be some people who decide to "bite the bullet" and finally start their own direct sales business and that they will choose Avon. After all, we do have the best one! In fact, I believe this would be a good day to re-post my blog about the Avon business to my FB business page. If any of you are inclined to let your own friends and acquaintances know about the business, I would very much appreciate any help you can give toward building our team. I imagine by now most of you have read about the changes coming to Avon in 2016. It should be a good year for us and a good year for others to join us. In case you have forgotten, you can recommend anyone through a link when you sign into www.youravon.com and you can also tell anyone to go to startavon.com and enter your code, which is the last part of your eStore URL after the /, and they can start themselves online and you will get credit for them as your recruit.

While I'm waiting on my C1 order to come today, I think I shall go out and get my almost last minute Christmas shopping done. I do a lot of my shopping online, some of it through myself of course, but there are a few things that I need to buy locally so I'm finally going to get that done. I'm a "I hate to shop" person, so I don't tackle the crowds unless I absolutely have to! I'd better do it today, because I'll be very busy getting those last minute orders out to my customers tomorrow and Thursday morning. Then it's Christmas and I'll be having fun!! I'm praying you will have a very Merry Christmas with your family and friends, and safe journeys if you are traveling.

It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

I know there is no need to ask if you are busy right now, because we are ALL busy right now! For most of us it's a fun type of busy as we prepare for and enjoy holiday gatherings with friends and family. For those of us in the Avon business, we are busily trying to make sure we meet all of our customers' expectations for holiday gift giving as well as getting ready for our own fun and frolicking. Speaking of frolicking, here is one of my favorite holiday tunes done in an impressive way by our local Huntsville Youth Orchestra. Click the pic and sit back and enjoy!

In addition to working on holiday sales, we are busily preparing for the new year in Avon. I thought you might like to see some of what is in store for the early part of 2016. Just click on the pic for a short video from Avon's YouTube channel.

Well, I've got deliveries to get done, including getting Avon books out to those customers I haven't gotten to yet, so I'm off and running again. After all, I must do my part to make this a very

Merry Christmas!!

C24 Cloud Climbers Unit Newsletter

This is the newsletter I write for my downline each campaign. To learn more about the Avon business and/or to get your business started, please click here.

Hello all you fine Cloud Climbers!

I'm getting started on my newsletter at 10:00 at night, while I keep an eye out the window toward a smouldering tree trunk we've been trying to burn for years. I smell like smoke from standing out there for hours listening to Bible Gateway on my phone while poking at it and encouraging it to burn. I'll need to check on it one more time before going to bed, so I thought I'd work on this newsletter for awhile and maybe even get it sent tonight. C24 was my annual fall fundraiser for the group I do one for twice a year, so working with that and the holiday yesterday has put me a little behind. I hope that all of you enjoyed your Thanksgiving Day as much as I did. My parents are 87 and 81 and still in good health so we were able to gather at their house in Huntsville as usual, which is a blessing.

Top Ten in Award Sales for C24 -
All with Award Sales over $150. 1. Susanne Walters  PC   (#3 in Award Sales for the Climbers for the year to date with sales of $7,198.)
 2. Rene Parker  PC     (#1 in Sales for the Climbers for the year to date with sales of $8,245.)
 3. Darren Mannahan
 4. Shawn Willie
 5. Diane Fowler
 6. Steffanie Erdelt
 7. Magalis Justiniano
 8. Gladys Faulk
 9. Patsy Cloud
10. Rebecca Rains

Ruby Nunnery is currently #2 in Award Sales for the Cloud Climbers for the year to date with sales of $7,317.

Awards for C24:  Steffanie Erdelt earned the Taste of PRP Level 1 and was given 50 points to spend in the awards catalog. Candice Haze Hit $100 for the 3rd campaign in a row and received her 3rd bundle of product samples. Cheryl Webb Hit $100 for her 1st campaign and received the 1st bundle of product samples.

There were 5 Cloud Climbers with direct delivery orders at their eStores in C24: Darren Mannahan, Laticia Moore, Rene Parker, Angi Price, and Virginia Washington. There are a lot of incentives right now for having direct delivery sales of over $100 at your eStore, so be sure to keep up with those. You'll find a link to them on your home page at www.youravon.com.

We have a new Cloud Climber! Malena Brown talked with me about becoming an Avon Representative at my booth at the FHU Associates Fall Market. We met last week and got her business started and she will have a first order in C26. Malena has been a long time user of Avon products because her grandmother is an Avon Lady and she is excited about becoming one herself.

I'm sure some of you are starting to see messages about items being sold out already, because I am receiving them too. Don't get discouraged, this happens every year. Avon is always working to make it a rare thing, but they just can't totally predict what will sell out. They are dependent upon outside vendors for many of their products and sometimes the vendor can't meet the demand. Just apologize to your customers and give them a little something free or a discount on a future order if you think it will help keep them buying from you. Most customers are disappointed but they understand the situation and they get over it. After all, it is only "stuff" and stuff can be replaced. As soon as you know you aren't going to be getting something, please let your customer know so that they can make plans accordingly. Perhaps you can even suggest an alternate item to them.

I know you are all very busy right now so I'm making this newsletter short. I'll make up for it by making a really long one full of pictures soon, because I captured several screen shots from a recent Avon call and power point presentation about exciting things that are coming in the new year. Here's a hint about one of them: Start getting ready to get serious about promoting Anew Skin Care, because Avon is getting serious about promoting it in the new year. If you haven't taken time to do the skin care training in Avon University, please get started on it soon. You can spread it out over several days or even weeks if need be, and when you complete it you will receive an Anew Skin Care Specialist pin to show your customers and potential customers that you are prepared to help them make informed decisions about which skin care system is best for them. Here's the cover planned for campaign 4.

That's it for now. Keep up the great work that you have been doing this year. If you haven't been doing great work this year, make plans to step it up next year. It will be here before you know it! :)

Avon's Best Buys of Campaign 25!

Happy Thanksgiving! I am thankful for all my good customers who are helping me reach my Avon goals each campaign and for the year. Some of you are new and some have been loyal customers almost since the beginning of my business almost 29 years ago - and there are many more in between the new and "seasoned" ones. :) It takes all of you with your orders large and small to make my business a success, so thank you, thank you, thank you! And a special thank you to my helpers who bring me orders from those they work with or have contact with in other ways. I have 5 or 6 of them and one of them who has been my helper for many years is retiring soon and moving, so I'll miss her.
In this campaign we have the Merry Makeup Sale, so most makeup items are at special prices, including:

  • Pg. 37, Lowest Prices Ever on Mega Effects Liquid Eye Liner ($4.99) and Mega Effects Mascara ($7.99).
  • Pg. 39, True Color 8-in-1 Eyeshadow Palette for $6.99 and available in 3 shade combinations.
  • Pg. 41, True Color Eyeshadow Quads are LPE of $4.99 and Eyeshadow Duos are LPE of $3.99.
  • Pg. 45-49, All Lipsticks are available for either $4.99 or $5.99.
  • Pg. 51, All Nail Enamels except the Gel ones are your choice for $3.49.
  • Pg. 53, Make your eyes pop with a liner while they are on sale. A customer favorite is the Always On Point and it is at LPE of $3.49.
  • Pg. 55, Don't forget your lashes either. You need to replace your mascara about every 3 months, so get a backup to have on hand while most of them are on sale for $4.99 and $5.99 each. You'll find the Wash-Off Waterproof for $4.99 on page 66.
  • Pg. 57, Glimmersticks are any 4 for $10! They won't be marked any lower when you figure the individual price, so get them for your eyes, lips, and brows now.
  • Pg. 61, Anew Age-Transforming Foundation is LPE of $10.99 and most other foundations are on sale as well.
  • Pg. 68, the Avon Lipstick Caddy is only $3.49 this campaign. Buy two of them if you have more than 12 lipsticks. (I think there are two types of ladies - the ones who wear the same color until it is discontinued and the ones who have a selection to mix and blend to get just the right look for every outfit and occasion. And in case you are wondering, I'm one of the latter ones.)

Moving beyond makeup, you'll also find these bargains:
  • Pg. 73, Haiku is LPE of $9.99. This is a top seller and there is a scent spot on the page.
  • Pg. 78/79, Femme is LPE of $15 and Rare Gold is LPE of $9.99.
  • Pg. 91, Black Suede Essential is LPE of $9.99.
  • Pg. 95, WOW! Anew Cleansers are only $1.99 with any Anew purchase, and...
  • Pgs. 97-103, Anew skin care items are each less than $20 each. Saving money on your skin care will leave you with more to spend on gifts and the holiday festivities.
  • Pg. 105, Anew Clinical Dark Circle Corrector is LPE of $17.99.
  • Pgs. 112/113, Mix or Match any 2 of the Clearskin items for only $6.99. Try the Black Mineral Mask or the Invigorating Scrub. Tip: The scrub is also great for giving yourself lovely soft and smooth hands.
  • Pg. 181, SSS Bath Oil in the 16.9 fl. oz. size is only $6.99.
  • Pg. 183, Mmmm... SSS Supreme Nourishment with Macadamia Nut Oil and a warm macadamia & vanilla scent. Now that is a treat for your whole body! The Creamy Body Wash is $3.49 and the Cream Oil Lotion is $4.49.
  • Pgs. 192/193, Foot Works collections are always a great gift. We have a 4-pc collection with Toasted Macadamia Nut and a 5-pc collection with Lavender and each collection is only $9.99. They'll make great teacher gifts!

That's enough for now. Don't forget to place your orders from the Avon Living catalog as soon as you know what you need, because some items are already selling out and won't be here in time for Christmas. Not many items, mind you, but a few. I know that the Inspirational Mugs have been a big hit and won't be here on time, because I ordered two of them myself. :( I'm just thankful that I will be able to get them, even if I have to make them Valentine's Day gifts!

FHU Associates Fall Market 2015

Every now and then, but not too often, I have a booth at a vendor event. The most important one I participate in each year is an event for a group I am a member of - the Freed-Hardeman University Associates, Huntsville Chapter. The FHU Associates are a group of ladies who are associated with FHU in some way and work to raise funds for student scholarships. I was a student at Freed-Hardeman College (now University) and our daughter, Bonny, graduated from Freed-Hardeman University. Our son, Seth, also attended FHU for one year. Bonny had a full tuition scholarship and both Seth and I had scholarship money as well, so we are indebted to those who went before us to establish scholarship funds. To help pay it forward, Bonny and I are now both active FHU Associates.

The third annual FHU Associates Fall Market is this coming Saturday, November 14, from 9 to 3. The West Huntsville Church of Christ at Providence is gracious enough to allow us to use the fellowship hall of their building for this event. We've been working hard to get all our vendors lined up and we think we have an excellent group this year. We decided that we would make sure to have at least half of our vendor booths as craft type vendors, and the rest will be representatives of Direct Sales companies. If you would like to be invited to the event on Facebook, just let me know and I'll get that done right away so you can see our complete vendor list and some of the items they are planning to have at their booths. We are hoping for a great turnout, and would love to see you there if you are in the North Alabama or Southern Tennessee area!

One of our vendors, who is also an FHU alumnus, will be doing two painting classes for us and we are taking reservations for those. We expect to also have room for wall-ins the day of the event. The classes are at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. No experience is required, art supplies will be provided, and your ticket price is a $25 donation to our college scholarship fund. Ticket purchases include a free drink for our Fall Market concession stand. For reservations you can call 256-763-0393 or send an email to fhuassociates@gmail.com. Here are the pictures we will be working on:

For the 9:30 class you can paint this beautiful ornament and personalize it with whatever you choose.

For the 12:30 class we have chosen this interesting painting with many options for shapes and colors.

Please come shop and/or paint with us and help us make this event a complete success for the benefit of the students of good ole FHU!

C23 Cloud Climbers Unit Newsletter

(This is the newsletter for my Avon team. I produce one every campaign. To join my Avon team, click here or contact me directly for more details.)

It's November! My favorite month of the year. Thanksgiving Day has always been a big day for my family and November reminds me of trips to my grandparents' house in Brewton, Alabama. They are both long gone now, but certain November days when the sun is shining, pine trees are casting shadows across their fallen straw on the ground, and the smell of burning leaves wafts on a breeze take me back to those wonderful Thanksgivings of my youth. Now I celebrate at my parents' house in Huntsville with my extended family in this area.

Looking at my downline manager reports in preparation for writing this newsletter was pretty exciting as I could clearly see that sales were picking up for most of you. In fact, 14 Cloud Climbers had sales over $150, and the top 4 had sales over $400!! Plus, more people turned in orders than have been doing so for the past few campaigns.

Laticia Moore joined our team recently, and Cheryl Webb rejoined us after a break. Ladies, I'm happy to have you both on our team and pray you will have much success with your businesses. Also, Candice Haze, who joined us in C22, Hit $100 for her second campaign in a row, so she gets the Second Campaign Bundle and banks another $20 to receive when she Hits $100 for her first 5 campaigns. Woo to the hoo, Candice!

I've been posting several things in our Facebook Cloud Climbers group, but I'm not seeing many of you viewing those posts. For example, just today I have posted a link to Avon YouTube videos on makeup application that you can share with your customers. You might want to go to this link and "Follow" the group so that you don't miss anything that might be useful to increase your business: https://www.facebook.com/groups/258393044280167/

Candice Haze, one of our newest Cloud Climbers, and Susanne Walters both had direct delivery orders placed at their eStores during C23. Congratulations ladies! Here are some of the coupon codes that are good right now:

When you sign in to YourAvon you will see that Avon will give you a free bottle of the new mark. fragrance, Sparkle, if you have $100 in sales at your eStore from November 4-10. Start sharing the link to your eStore today so that you won't miss
out on this freebie!

Celebrating Avon Anniversaries this month are: Callista Motter (11/14, 4 years), Brenda Taylor (11/14, 4 years), Ashley Baldwin (11/21, 1 year), and Lacey Harmon (11/22, 2 years). I hope all of you continue to enjoy your businesses for many more years.

These Cloud Climbers will turn a year older this month: Amy Odell, Cassandra Brown, Virginia Washington, Suheidy Colon, and Brenda Taylor. I hope you are all treated extra special by those who surely must appreciate the fact that you were born, and I wish you all a happy birthday!!

Here is another tip from the Business Strategy handout I found recently:  Build a Repeat Business. Skincare and makeup products offer the best repeat sales because they are usually used on a daily basis. A skincare regimen consists of a cleanser for day and night, a moisturizer for day and night, and some type of targeted area treatment such as eye treatment or Clinical products for whatever the customer deems her most problematic area. Building a skincare business provides consistent sales to assist you in reaching your earnings goal. To help you "be the expert" on skincare, please take the skincare course on Avon University. If you have 20 skincare customers and 10 of those order every other campaign, just imagine how much repeat earnings you will have each month!

I'm off to do deliveries this afternoon. It looks like the sun will peek out just a little, but I actually find this kind of weather - overcast but not raining - perfect for delivering and customer searching.

C22 Cloud Climbers Unit Newsletter

(This is my newsletter for my downline team members. I produce a new one every two weeks to encourage and motivate them toward new heights. If you would like to be a Cloud Climber too, it's very easy. Go here to get started today, or here to learn more about how the business works.)

Happy Friday!!

I know a lot of you, most of you in fact, work at full time jobs in addition to your Avon business, and most of those jobs do not involve weekend work, so I guess you get excited about Fridays. Since Avon is my full time job, Fridays are not such a big deal for me. I actually love Mondays, because those are generally my days to get the house back in order from the busy weekend and work on different business things at home. Today and tomorrow I'm mostly getting the house in order for a gathering of Seed Sowers from church that will be meeting at our house Sunday night. We haven't had a big group here in awhile, so the clutter has gotten a bit much and must be organized somewhat. :)

This has been a busy week for me Avon wise, because I have added several new customers and it looks like my order will be at least double what it was last campaign - which was a low one. It seems that people are getting into the Christmas shopping mood and I'm thankful they are doing some of that shopping with me!
I hope your C23 order is a good one as well. If things go according to plan, I'll have my customer reminder out to you before the day is over.

Top 10 in Sales for C22

1. Susanne Walters   PC
(She came close to beating me this campaign!
 2. Barbie Breen
 3. Ruby Nunnery
 4. Rene Parker   PC
 5. Maria Loza
 6. Magalis Justiniano
 7. Steffanie Erdelt
 8. Brenda Taylor
 9. Candice Haze   NEW
10. Darren Mannahan

Congratulations to Candice Haze for making it into the Top 10 in Sales for her first campaign, and for hitting the Hit $100 Challenge for her first campaign! I appreciate Candice for being goal oriented and even asking me what goal I had set for her for the next campaign. My goal is for her to Hit $100 for her first 5 campaigns and earn the $100 bonus and I expect she will do it too, because she is a hard worker. For making the first campaign goal she earned a product/sample bundle. I'm not sure what is in that, but I know it will be good Avon stuff including items she can use to continue to build her business.

Three Cloud Climbers had Direct Delivery orders this campaign: Candice Haze, Rene Parker, and Susanne Walters. Congratulations ladies! I'm sure that more of you could be getting these DD orders if you promoted your pages. Don't you think so? Come on! Give it a try!!

I saw four Cloud Climbers on the District Recognition page for C22: Susanne Walters is #8 in Recruiting, Maria Loza is #4 in Sales Increase of Non-PC members, Steffanie Erdelt is #8 in the same category, and Ruby Nunnery is #5 in Sales for Non-PC members. I love seeing my team members on these lists!

In cleaning up my house this morning, I ran across some materials from an Avon meeting I attended some time ago with some business strategy tips that I want to share with you. I'll share one in this newsletter and others in the next couple of newsletters.

Business Strategy. Try to add at least one new customer every campaign.
A common mistake business owners in direct selling make is selling to the same 5-10 customers (usually family and friends) each business cycle. The problem is that the same customers do not always place consistent orders every campaign. The only way to win is to have new customers every campaign. If only 30%
(which is about the average percentage for most representatives) of your customers order out of a customer base of 10, that is only 3 customer orders. You know you are in business when you begin to interact with people you don't know. As a business owner, challenge yourself to build a new business by adding new customers every campaign. Here are a few tips for doing this:
  • Order an Avon badge with your name on it from Town & Country on the YourAvon home page under "Avon Advantage Partners," and then wear it wherever you go that it is appropriate - shopping, delivering orders, ball games, out to eat, etc.
  • Put a sticker on your vehicle with your Avon information. You can get these from Town & Country as well.
  • Wear Avon logo items from Town & Country.
  • Ask me for a button that says something like "Hello. I'm the Avon Lady." I have a few of these that I can share.
  • Carry one or two extra brochures with you and have them sticking out of your purse if possible. Put a sticky note on the front of each one and when you give one to a new person, write their name and number on the sticky note and keep it so you can call them for an order.
  • Every time you meet someone new, be sure to work into the conversation that you are an Avon Representative and offer them a brochure if they don't ask you for one first.
  • Do cold calling if you aren't too shy. (And if you are too shy, get over it! ;] ) Just find a neighborhood near you, perhaps even your own, and go door to door if soliciting is allowed there. You don't have to ring the bell if you aren't willing to be that "pushy," just leave a brochure with your contact info at the door. It's always best to get contact info from the people you leave books with, but this works for using older brochures you might have left over from the previous two campaigns.
  • I recently wrote a note to go into Swag Bags for the Gingerbread Marketplace that will be taking place on November 14. I won't be at the event, in fact I'll be at another event in Providence, but they offered the opportunity to put items into 150 swag bags for only $10 and I accepted the offer. I'll let you know later if I get any orders or recruits from that event. I wrote the note as "$$ Be a Smartee and Shop From Your Seat Not Your Feet $$" and attached my business card and a roll of Smartee candies to each one. I am attaching that flyer to this newsletter in case you want to change it to make it suitable for your own use. You can use it without the candy attached as an insert for brochures you hand out to new people, which is what I am doing with it now.

I'd better close out this newsletter and get on to my Customer Reminder so I can meet my own goals for the day. Let me know if I can help you with your business in any way. Or just call me to say "hi" if you like and to let me know that you read this newsletter. :) Also, please take a look at the District 1139 Facebook page now and then, as well as our own Cloud Climbers FB page. If you have any tips for the other reps. in either of those groups, we'd sure like for you to share them.
