Alabama Snowpocalypse!

Snow + apocalypse = snowpocalypse   When weathermen predict large amounts of snowfall in a short period of time.

That's what we had yesterday here in north Alabama, and was it ever fun! The snow started falling softly about 3:00 p.m. and it snowed until around midnight. By the time it stopped, we had close to 6 inches in our area, and friends nearby had over 8 inches. Here is part of the view God blessed me with this morning.

The beauty of an Alabama snowfall is that its visit is short and sweet most of the time. Work and school stops for the most part, because we don't have the heavy equipment down here to keep the roads clear, since it would not be worthwhile to invest in it for the rare times we have heavy snow. So pretty much everyone stays home for a day or two and we can enjoy family time and snow play, or just enjoy snow viewing and snow cream eating. Of course, we know northerners who suffer through a lot of the heavy stuff laugh at us, and that's okay. We sometimes laugh at ourselves. And yes, we really do buy up all the milk and bread at the local stores. I saw proof of it yesterday at our new WalMart Neighborhood Market. :)

So, I've been busy enjoying the snow, mostly through my windows, while catching up on some reading, sewing, working a bit on those dreaded taxes, and looking at my friends' snow pictures on Facebook when I wasn't enjoying my own. The snow on the roads has melted now, so it's back out I go tomorrow.

Well, look at that. I wrote a whole post without even mentioning Avon. Oops! Now I've gone and done it. But with good reason, because there is a FREE SHIPPING code good until the end of the day on Saturday if your order for direct delivery from my website is at least $25. The code is WINTERFS, so be sure to enter that as you check out. If you want to see some of the best buys right now, check my blog on the website or here.

A Lead?!? What is a "Lead?"

Sometimes when new Avon representatives hear some of us who have been around awhile talking about "leads" they don't understand the language. What is a "lead?" A lead is someone who is a potential customer or a potential Avon representative. There are a few Avon representatives who just like to order Avon products for themselves or their family members. However, most of us have Avon businesses that are designed to earn income, and we are always looking for new customers or representatives to join our teams, so leads are very important to us.

Avon has long promoted "The Power of Three!" which has to do with talking to three new people about Avon every day in order to build your business to the successful level you desire. If you talk to three people and get brochures into their hands and contact information from them into your hands, each of them becomes a potential customer or a potential representative. When you are about to turn in your next Avon order, you need to follow up with each lead to see what items they would like to order from the current brochure, what samples they might need, or what product questions they might have. You should also make them aware of the fact that you can get them started in their own Avon business, and give information they might need in order to make an informed decision. (See my blog post here for details about the Avon business, and please ask me any questions you might have.)

Take a look at some short videos about leads who have become Avon representatives:

Buy Makeup Online

With more and more people preferring to shop from home, and the internet making it so much easier to do so, companies, including Avon, are providing ways for customers' needs to be met no matter how they prefer to shop. Each Avon representative has the option, at no extra cost, of having a personal website where customers can shop. Avon furnishes content, and we have many options to choose ways to arrange that content and the look of our page to what best suits our needs. For example, on my personal website page, I like to draw attention to some of the best buys for the campaign, feature new products, and also provide a link so that those who want to give the Avon business a try can easily get started from right there on the page. Here is a screen shot of my website home page.

You can see the current brochure in my personal comments section and click on the cover to go right to the brochure and shop, another set of links below left that will allow you to shop in the way that suits you best, and a link in the bottom center that will take you to a page where you can learn all about the Avon business and start your own Avon business in less than 5 minutes. (I have a page at the top of this blog that will allow you to do the same.) On the right side of the page are some products I choose to call attention to in this campaign. At the very top of the page you will see "blog" and that is where I post my featured best buys - which will include makeup, skin care, bath and body, and sometimes jewelry.

When you shop at my website, you have two options - delivery by representative and direct delivery. Of course, you will only want to choose delivery by representative if you are in my local area of service (Harvest, Madison, Toney, East Limestone, North Huntsville), as I do not personally ship products to people. If you are in the local area but prefer to receive your products directly from Avon rather than delivered by me, that is perfectly fine. You would order for direct delivery, just as those outside my delivery area do, and pay for your order when you place it. (Those who order online for me to deliver do not pay for their orders until I deliver them.) Your order will arrive within just a few days, very nicely packaged, with a note from Avon telling you how much they, and I, appreciate your order.

Of course, you are covered under Avon's 100% Satisfaction Guarantee no matter how you order. Just be sure to let Avon (or me if I deliver to you) know within 90 days if you need to do an exchange or return.

Ready to shop now? Just click on one of the links in this post, go use the tab at the top of the page.

AVON Celebrates You! (and Me!)

Every year Avon Representatives who have reached various levels of achievement in sales are honored at a luncheon called the President's Club Tribute, as President's Club is the first level of achievement. There are currently 44 Cloud Climbers in my Avon Unit, and several of them came close to making President's Club this past year, but only two made it. Congratulations are in order for Susanne W. and Rene P. for their accomplishments! Our PC Tribute was today, and we enjoyed a delicious lunch catered by Ruth's Chris Restaurant and received awards and recognition for our hard work. Susanne was able to be there but, unfortunately, Rene had an unexpected problem that came up that kept her from attending and celebrating with us.

This year I received recognition for having the second highest sales in our district of about 600 representatives, (thank you, Avon customers!), and that award is the tall silver statuette in the picture below. I was also recognized as having the highest online sales in our division of about 9,000 representatives, which came as a real surprise to me. I was number six in sales of skin care products for the division, and I was happy to hear Susanne announced as number one in sales of Bug Guard for the division. Way to go, Susanne!

The biggest surprise of the day, however, was receiving the Spirit of Avon Award. This award is chosen by the district manager each year, and it is an especially nice honor. Many of my friends in Avon have won the award in the past, but I have not. I like to try to guess which of my friends will win each year, and quite often I guess correctly. I did not guess correctly this year, as I felt certain another worthy representative would be receiving it. The managers love keeping their secret and seeing the expression on the face of the one they have chosen each year, and I know my face had a shocked look this time. That award is the crystal one in the picture below, and here is what it says:

"The SPIRIT OF AVON award is an award given from the heart. The heart of a Manager -- and the heart of Avon. It is often hard to choose just one recipient because there are so many special Representatives. However, one person's incredible spirit stands out above the rest. Not necessarily because of sales volume or recruiting excellence, but because of an attitude of giving, sharing, and selflessness. This person gives of themselves continually. They build their own business by professionally and courteously serving their customers. They care about and share with other Representatives, as well as all who have the privilege of crossing their path. This Representative is a friend, a teacher, and a blessing. They are the SPIRIT OF AVON 2014."

Having my fellow representatives, some of whom have received the honor in the past and some of whom will receive it in the future, hug me and congratulate me was very special as well. And reading that accolade makes me want to try to deserve it more in the future.

If you would like to be a part of a company that treats so well those it depends on for its existence, please talk to me or click here to get started today.

When you say "Sale" people pay attention!

I was looking at my blog stats just now and saw that the post that had the most views was one with "Sale" in the title. Hmmm. That tells me that my viewers want to peruse the bargain table, which comes as no surprise, because I do too! Every campaign AVON has an Outlet which features discontinued items that are available while supplies last. I generally give the Outlets that I receive to the customers whose orders I am delivering that campaign, but anyone can view them online at my website. Click on the picture below to see the current offerings.

18 Embarrassing Beauty Questions. Is one of them yours?

Web MD sent me a link to 18 Embarrassing Beauty Questions and what to do about them.  I noticed that several of the Questions have solutions that AVON products can help with. For example:

Why do I have a unibrow?  Our SSS Facial Hair Removal Cream (417-521) will easily remove facial hair in 2 1/2 minutes.

Why do my nails split and fray?  My best selling and most heavy duty hand cream is Moisture Therapy Intensive Healing & Repair (786-296). Put it on before you put your hands in gloves to wash those dishes, before you put on your gloves to go out into the cold, or before bed at night to have more beautiful hands and nails by replacing the moisture that is lost in them through daily living and hand washing.

How can I soften calloused feet?  FootWorks Intensive Callus Cream (351-180), FootWorks Pumice Cream (882-648), FootWorks Pedi-Peel (888-919) and, my personal favorite, FootWorks Lavender Softening Balm (149-388) can all help with those callouses, and right now they are all buy one get one free!

Why do my feet stink?   To help with foot odor, try FootWorks Deodorizing Foot Wipes (428-195), FootWorks Deodorizing Foot Spray (427-897), and FootWorks Deodorizing Foot Powder (888-923).

Remember the 100% satisfaction guarantee you get with any AVON product you order. If these products don't help you, I'll do my best to find ones that will!

Big Beautiful Color Sale

It's time for AVON's Big Beautiful Color Sale, and almost all makeup items are available at discount prices. Here are a few of the best buys I found in the Campaign 5 brochure:

  • Pg. 3, NEW SuperExtend Winged Out Mascara is only $5.99, and available in Black, Blackest Black, and Brown Black. This clump and flake proof mascara has a brush inspired by a feather with hundreds of fine filigree bristles that capture every lash, drawing them up and out. I've been using it and am very pleased.
  • Pg. 8, Ultra Color Glossy Tube. Moisturizing, vitamin-infused lip gloss in six high-shine shades for $2.99.
  • Pg. 12, Beyond Color Plumping Lipcolor and Plumping Lip Conditioner for $4.99.
  • Pg. 15, True Color Eyeshadow Quad is Lowest Price Ever (LPE) of $4.99, and available in 14 rich, stay-true shade palettes.
  • Pg. 17, True Color Eyeshadow Duos are LPE of $3.99, and available in 8 shade combinations.
  • Pg. 18, Always on Point Eye Liner is popular with my customers. The sharpener is in the cap, so just a twist keeps the point the way you want it. Available in Midnight Navy, Black Brown, Black, and Brown for only $3.49.
  • Pg. 21, Speed Dry+ Nail Enamel is Wet to Wow in 30 seconds! And right now it is $3.49.
  • Pg. 25, Glimmersticks are once again at LPE of $2.99 each. These are available for Brows, Lips, and Eyes in several shades. Tip for lips: Line and fill in lips with the liner and then top with coordinating lipstick or gloss (or both) for a long lasting look that won't bleed into the lines around your lips.
  • Pg. 26-27, All Makeup Brushes are on sale, with savings up to 50%.
  • Pg. 35, Moisture Effective Eye Makeup Remover is only $1.25.
  • Pg. 39, When Haiku Kyoto Flower Eau de Parfum was introduced, I believe I sold more of it than any other fragrance at introduction. It is now at LPE of $10.99, so the perfect time to restock or try for the first time. For those with a brochure, there is a scent strip on the page.
  • Pg. 45, You don't see the classic fragrance Night Magic Evening Musk in every brochure, but it is available right now for $6.99!
  • Pg. 49, Two of my favorite fragrances are Today and Tomorrow, and they are each $22 - a savings of over 25%.
  • Pg. 57-65, 100% of women showed improved radiance around the eyes when they used ANEW Vitale Eye Gel Cream, which is at Best Offer Ever price of $19.99. The eye treatments for the ANEW Reversalist, Ultimate, and Platinum lines are all $19.99 this campaign as well.
  • Pg. 73, Clearskin Professional 3-step full-size kit is LPE of $18.00.
  • Pg. 74/75, Here's a deal that's hard to beat. AVON Elements for day and night are all on sale, and you get to choose a free cleanser (6 choices) with any purchase of those products.
  • Pg. 129, The AVON Body Spa introduces SSS Aroma + Therapy Stress Relief with Eucalyptus & Geranium. Moisturizer, Foam Bath, and Body Wash are each $4.99. Ahhh....
  • Pg. 147, Advance Technique Shampoos and Conditioners are less than half price at $2.89 each.

The California Perfume Company

David H. McConnell did not set out to begin a perfume company. He started out as a book salesman who gave perfume samples to women to get them to take a look at his books. When he found that they were more interested in the perfume than in the books, he decided he was onto something that could be a better money maker. The company he created was not called AVON in the beginning, but rather The California Perfume Company, although it was not located in California. If you are interested in learning more, click on the pic for the whole story.

The first "AVON" lady (called a depot agent then) was Mrs. P.F.E. Albee, and AVON representatives receive an award called a "Mrs. Albee" each year when they reach a certain level of award sales, currently $10,000. It is always exciting to see the Mrs. Albee we will be reaching for each year. Here is a picture of a few of the Mrs. Albees that I have received through the years, including my first one in 1992, which is the lady in blue who is sitting down. I have been blessed, through the orders of faithful customers, to have received one every year since 1992, bringing my total collection to 24. The bride Mrs. Albee who appears in this picture rotates on a music box and was given as a special award for sales increase in 1998. I often use her as a decoration at wedding showers for which my church shower team is in charge. The miniature Mrs. Albees were given as gifts several years to those who attended the tribute luncheon that all recipients of Mrs. Albees are invited to each year. We are always treated with special honor at those luncheons, and I'm definitely looking forward to the next one, which is coming up on February 19!

Your Lipstick is HOW Old?!?

My mama raised me to be frugal, cut coupons, only buy on get the drift. It's in my nature not to want to throw things away, to squeeze all I can from the tube and then cut it in half to dig out the rest, to dig out the lipstick in the bottom of the tube with a lip brush...well, you know. Perhaps you are one of those people too, or perhaps not. If you are though, I'm sure it is tempting to keep using your makeup until there isn't a smidgen left. Well, that is fine if you only have a few makeup items and you use them up in a reasonable time. But for those of us who end up with an abundance of makeup, it is good to be reminded now and then what the "experts" recommend for replacing makeup. No law says you have to follow their recommendations, but knowing them can be helpful. So, here are the latest recommendations that I have seen.

Foundation, replace after one year. I can't imagine foundation lasting more than a year, but I suppose it could if you only used it on special occasions.

Mascara, replace every 3 to 4 months. I use mascara every time I make up my face, which is several times a week, so I use it up and have no trouble with this unless I start trying different mascaras and have several open at a time. This is a good rule to follow, because we really need to protect our eyes from danger. It is especially important to throw out eye makeup whenever you get an eye infection. If you just opened a mascara and then got pink eye, it might be hard to throw it away, but it is important to do so to keep from reinfecting yourself.

Lipstick, replace after one year. This is the one I don't follow. I have an unreal number of lipsticks, and some of them are many years old. However, when they begin to have an "off" smell or taste, out they go!

So...are some of your makeup items in need of being replaced? If so, click on over to my website and see what's available. You'll probably find just what you need at a frugal price!

Groundhog Day Surprise!

I heard reports that we were to have a really hard winter this year, even down here in Alabama. However, so far things have been about normal here, although they are having it rough up north. Tomorrow is Groundhog Day, and I'm hoping there is NOSHADOW! Say, speaking of NOSHADOW, that code is good for getting free shipping on any size order at my website until midnight on Groundhog Day. And if your order is over $50, you will also get a free quilted wallet.
