The 4th of July is practically upon us and I'm seeing a lot of red, white, and blue everywhere. My way of celebrating involves NOT blowing up fireworks or anything else and praying that those in my neighborhood who do shoot them will be cautious. Many years ago I watched a storage building burn to the ground next door several hours after a stray firework landed on its roof and smoldered there for awhile unnoticed. The homeowner was battling to keep the fire from spreading while waiting on the fire department to arrive. That's not something I want to witness again! The City of Madison, Alabama, has a wonderful fireworks display about half a mile from our church building, so several years ago we began the tradition of having an all church picnic at our building in the evening and then sitting around in groups on the church parking lot to watch the display from a safe distance and without the hassle of battling traffic to get in and out of the park where the fireworks are being done. So, I'll be enjoying food, fireworks, and fellowship!
